A Free 5-Minute Test to See if You Should Quit Your Job (my birthday gift to you)

By Scott | April 3, 2012 | Follow me on Twitter

Should I Quit My Job Test

“Give first. The rest will follow.”

-A very wise old man

Today is a huge day for two reasons:

1. It’s my birthday – 30 years to be exact :)

and…

2. I am launching the most exciting project I’ve worked on in a long time.

So I’m going to cut right to it. This post is not about reading. It’s about doing.

“How Do I Know If I Should Quit My Job?”

With most the world unhappy with their work, I get this question more than any other.

So, five months ago I had the idea to create a simple tool – a test to help you answer it.

I thought the project would take two weeks…

Five months later (and well into four figures worth of design and development cost, and 70+ hours of my team’s time) it is finally ready. And I am so excited to share it with you!

As of 7am PST this morning (April 3rd), The Should I Quit Test is officially Live!

The best part? It’s 100% free – it’s my birthday gift to you. All I ask is that you take it honestly, and share it with those close to you (who you know really need it).

Give first. The rest will follow.

That’s been my motto for a while now: Give as much of yourself as possible, to help those around you, and the rest will take care of itself (thanks for teaching me that one mom!). That’s what Live Your Legend is built upon. Nothing has lead to more success for those around me (all of you) and for myself. Plus, nothing feels better.

So… on my 30th birthday, as a totally free gift to our community, I’m launching one of my favorite projects ever. And one that I think could potentially make the biggest, most wide-spread difference.

The test is meant to be incredibly simple…

In fact it’s just a handfull of yes/no questions that take no more than 5 minutes to complete.

But I have a feeling the results will be incredibly eye-opening.

The test and questions are designed to give you an honest assessment of your current work environment and whether you are in a position where you can do work that truly embodies who you are and the difference you want to make in the world, or if it’s time for you to move on so you can build a career around work you Love.

These questions are the result of hundreds of case studies, interviews and interactions with clients, readers and Living Legends around the world as well as the interactions we have with between 50,000-100,000 readers every month.

I hope they shed some light on how you plan to put your dent in the world.

Have fun with it!

Please take 3-5 minutes right now and do 2 things:

1. Please take the test. It truly takes less than 5 minutes (usually under 3). Whether you love your work, hate it, or are somewhere in between, I’m confident it will help. Click this link to take the test now.

2. Please share the test with those close to you. All the share links are right on the test page.

*Your results are totally confidential and are purely meant to open your eyes to where you stand and what to do about it.

Consider this a wake up call.

And the test is just the beginning!

I’ve also created 13 different totally free tools to go along with it to help you improve your score. Think of it as a mini career-change course of sorts.

I can’t wait to hear what you think!

It’s time to start asking the hard questions most of us tend to avoid.

So please take the 5-minute Should I Quit Test right now.

I could not think of a better way to celebrate a birthday (nor a better crew to celebrate with)!

Thank you. For everything.

-Scott

P.S. Please give serious thought to who else could use this test and send it their way (to at least two people). Just use the share links on the test page. Takes a few seconds max.

Here’s to loving our work!

Now I’m off to enjoy this glorious day.

Comments closed today – try the test out instead ;)

Entrepreneurship Is A Compulsion, Not A Choice (is this you?)

trust your crazy ideas

“It is difficult to see the picture when you are inside the frame.”

~Eugene Kleiner, Co-founder Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield & Byers

How do you know if you’re meant to be an entrepreneur?

“Do I spend my life working for someone else or do I take a crack and beating the odds and hanging my own shingle?”

It’s an age-old question (and one of the most important when it comes to doing passionate work) and today we’re going to get the answer from someone who’s much more qualified than I – my good friend John Greathouse.

Now that I think of it, today is also a pretty big day. Until now, I have never published a guest article on Live Your Legend. Not once in 4+ years has an article on this site been written by someone other than me.

Today that’s changing ever so slightly, and I’m very excited about it.

From now on, over 90% of what you read at Live Your Legend will still be created by me, but in the future I will very occasionally host a guest expert, a Living Legend, who can cover a topic about 100x better than I could.

After all, how ridiculous would it be to assume I could cover every topic regarding doing work we love, better than other experts out there? The truth is, in some cases (actually, a lot of them) that’s just not true. Plus, a different perspective is always useful.

So today I’d like to introduce a good friend and mentor, John Greathouse.

Lessons from Creating the #1 Personal Development Product of 2011

I want to start by saying THANK YOU! To all you massively passionate and loyal readers, supporters and those of you who have purchased Live Off Your Passion in the past few months.

Somehow, thanks to all of you, Live Off Your Passion was voted The #1 Personal Development Product of 2011!! Wow! Seriously, I was blown away to hear this. I didn’t even know it was being considered until I heard the big news.

And the only reason it happened was because of all you. The contest was held by Steve Aitchison of Change Your Thoughts, where over 20,000 people from around the world were asked to nominate and then cast their vote.

Seriously, thank you!

I poured my heart and soul into this course (as you likely saw from the surveys, product checklists and all else). The project technically started about 6 months ago but in reality it began nearly 8 years ago…

The Full Checklist Behind My $31,000 Product Launch (free PDF download)

By Scott | February 9, 2012 | Follow me on Twitter

31k product launch checklist

*Note: In the spirit of full disclosure and helping in any way I can, I am filling you in on both the below details and my full private product launch checklist.  I only disclose this information because I feel it will allow you to further Live Your Legend. Sometimes real numbers help people listen a little more closely.

Enjoy.

****

On November 8th, 2011 I launched Live Your Legend’s flagship product – the Live Off Your Passion self study eCourse.

In the following 30 days the course sold 369 copies and made $31,355.50.

I was blown away.

But in a way I believe I (with the guidance of some very smart folks) created much of that luck.

I believe that at least 70% (if not more) of my success came from my detailed development and launch strategy.

After the launch settled down, I spent a full day deconstructing my full product creation and launch process for two reasons:

  1. To understand what worked & why, and
  2. To make the experience repeatable

The result was a 7-page, 135-item checklist of tasks and events that took place over the course of about 3 months from product creation all the way through to launch and post-launch.

I thought about keeping this private but in the spirit of helping you any way I can, just last night I put it into a free PDF download as part of the Epic Work Toolkit that all subscribers have free access to (download your copy at the bottom of this post – if reading this in email, click here to get access).

Warning: this checklist won’t be any use unless you are genuinely helping people.

Remember, it all comes back to helping those around you.

None of these product creation and launch strategies matter even an ounce if you do not do the things we’ve discussed in the past few weeks.

You absolutely must:

  • Find a way to massively help people using your passions and gifts
  • Build it into an incredibly compelling and different positioning and online offer
  • Surround yourself with passionate people doing the impossible

If you need a refresher, go back and read the last four articles on this site. Seriously take some time and meditate on that stuff.

Then come back to this checklist and watch it blow your mind.

*Note: Before creating my product, my friend Corbett Barr said I absolutely must read How to Launch the *** Out of Your eBook. The guidance in that book was absolute gold and it works for most any online product launch. Much of my launch checklist came from the things I learned in that book. The problem was the book didn’t provide an easy-to-follow checklist, so I decided to make one myself!

Download the full checklist that lead to my $31,000 product launch:

Ok, now for the really fun part. All LYL subscribers get this tool 100% for free.

To get the PDF download just enter your email in the form below.

**Some clarity for those of you new to Live Your Legend: Just so you know how things work around here, every couple months I create a massive workbook or tool in the form of a PDF, Word doc or online test to help you further do work you love, and I make it available totally for free as part of the set of tools every email subscriber gets access to (I call it the Epic Work Toolkit). It’s a way of me saying thanks for your support.

If you’re already a subscriber, don’t worry, you will not be double subscribed. You will just be taken straight to the download page.

If you are not a subscriber yet, entering your email below will give you full access to our full suite of free tools and you’ll get an update every time a new article comes out as well as some other exclusive subscriber-only content. Thanks for joining the community and being a part of what we’re building!

Don’t see a form? Click here.

I hope this launch checklist is even half as helpful for you all as it was for me!

The Final (and most crucial) Single Step to Profiting from Your Blog (hint: it has nothing to do with the web)

By Scott | February 7, 2012 | Follow me on Twitter

No one Does Anything Alone

“You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.”

― E. James Rohn (Jim Rohn)

*Note: This week marks the final part to our “Monetizing Your Passion Online” series. I can’t believe how much fun feedback I’ve gotten on these few posts. Glad it’s been helpful! And keep an eye out because later this week I’m going to share my full checklist that lead to a $31k product launch. It will be a free PDF download for you all ;)

Now it’s time to talk about the most fundamental and game-changing step of all…

*****

The one practice that makes all the difference.

Last week the Live Your Legend community hit two pretty exciting milestones.

They both reminded me that when it comes to building anything, there is one thing that matters more than any other. But first a little recap of the events:

First, I gave an incredibly fun talk to LoveSpring, a group started by the founders of TEDxSF that consists of a bunch of passionate entrepreneurs and world-changers in SF. The topic was on Making the Impossible Your New Normal. I hope to have the audio of it for you all soon. It was a true honor. Anyone in SF has got to check this group out. Thanks Taylor and Christine for the opportunity!

Second, Live Your Legend hosted its first webinar ever. We had hundreds of participants and the event lasted nearly two hours (it was supposed to be an hour but Q/A and some fun discussion keep us at it for a while longer). The webinar turned out to be a hit as Jonathan Mead, founder of Illuminate Mind and creator of Trailblazer shared some of his best strategies for turning your passion into an online business. He even offered up some cool tools and his Trailblazer community and course, which I’ll tell you more about below.

It all comes back to the people around you.

The funny thing is that while these two events were wildly different in all kinds of ways, they both ended up highlighting one thing above all others that allows us operate on a level higher than we could ever imagine.
