2012 Goal Setting Guide

“By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.” ~Benjamin Franklin

The Big Announcement: The 2012 Goal Setting and Action Workbook is officially live and available for download.

The best part? It is completely free. I just added it to the subscriber-only Epic Work Toolkit, so all you have to do is enter your email below and you’ll get full access (as well as some other awesome exclusive free tools).

*Note: if you’re already subscribed, entering your email will not double subscribe you. It will just take you straight to the download page. Enjoy!

In the past few weeks over 9,000 people have downloaded this, so I can’t wait to see what you think!

The only favor I ask is that you share it with people who need it by using the the Twitter, FB and “email this” links above and below (but only if you feel like it).

Download the free workbook here:

So there you have it. There’s no need to read any more. Just download the workbook and start setting some massive goals and come back and share them with us! (but you can read on if you want :).

Goals are where it all starts…

You can probably tell by now that I absolutely love New Years.

It’s my favorite time to reflect on all that’s happened in the year prior and to set massive plans for the year to come.

As you may have read in the Best Of 2011 post earlier this week, the last twelve months have been amazing. Live Your Legend grew by nearly 8,000 subscribers (and is now above 10k) and got voted a top 50 Personal Development Blog of 2011. I also worked with some amazing coaching clients, ran a marathon, swam from Alcatraz and I launched the Live Off Your Passion eCourse, which just last month was voted the #1 Personal Development Product of 2011.

It’s been a hell of a year!

I don’t tell you this to brag by any means. But instead I tell you to provide some proof.

The above things didn’t just happen. They were the result of massive planning and even more massive action. That’s the only real way that dreams meet reality.

Over the past ten years or so I’ve developed a goal-setting process that flat-out get’s results. I want to share it with you.

While goal setting is now a part of who I am, I recognize that for 99% of the world, it’s anything but.

That’s exactly why I created the Goal Setting and Action Workbook.

I spent many hours (and days) creating this. I did not write it to simply be read. I created it to help you take action to make 2012 your best year yet – and to show you the exact process I’ve used for years.

If you’re planning to simply read through the workbook and do nothing about it, you’re better off stopping here. But I know that’s not you, right? Ok, good.

So here’s what it contains:

  • 10 pages and 11 detailed steps to go from dream to shaping reality
  • A 2,800-word supplement to explain the process
  • PDF and Word version for easy filling out

Oh and I included the one step that almost all goal-setting programs tend to miss. And surprise surprise, it’s the one that makes all the difference when it comes to results.

I’m excited to hear what you think!

Follow a process, any process…

There are currently over 10 million results on Google for ‘Goal Setting’. To be honest, I bet just about any of them would get results. Whether you follow my steps or one of the other 10,000,000 I honestly don’t care. The key is to follow a process. Any process.

Do whatever you will actually do consistently.

Goals are like excersise. The most effective program is not the one that gets the biggest and best results, it’s the one you’ll actually stick to.

I want you to get results – for you to take action and experience all of what matters to you and to the world. That’s my biggest goal here.

Dreams don’t become reality by dreaming. That is the very first and simplest step. The magic happens when a consistent process of dedicated action is applied to the things that matter most in your life.

Every life can be Epic in it’s own way.

-Scott

P.S. Block off a few hours or a day this weekend to fill this out because next week I’ll share all my big plans for 2012 and I hope you’ll be ready to do the same…

  • Jonathan L

Thanks Scott for another great year in the making! We (my wife and I) used it last year with great success. 1 year in – passive cash-flow growing and more importantly, my wife has quit her job for the opportunity of going into a career that’s actually fulfilling!

    Cheers
    Your Canadian friends

    • Scott

Now THAT is music to my ears! I’d love to hear a bit more as a possible mini case study or testimonial if you’re up for it. Congrats!

    Scott,

I used the 2011 version last year and I can’t begin to tell you how much it helped me make the important things in life happen! Without your resource I don’t think I would have even attempted – let alone achieved – big goals like buying a new house and selling our old one, improving my reading speed without sacrificing accuracy (something you can appreciate I know) and a whole lot more. I’m excited for tonight when I sit down with this updated version and set the goals in 2012 that will make my life – and all of those around me – better in so many ways. Thanks a TON once again! I’ll be sharing this via Facebook, Twitter and some targeted emails to friends.

    ~Joel

    • Scott

Wow, amazing Joel! So glad it was so helpful last year. I sometimes take for granted that most people don’t even think about goals without a little nudge from someone else. Hat’s off to all you created last year. The workbook just provided you some guidance, but you are the one who created all that you mentioned!

  • http://happymumsathome.com kirri

I first used your workbook last year and its one of the best I have experienced. I’ve also shared it with some of my clients (they know its your work!), on FB and twitter. Exceptional as always :)

    • Scott

Thanks for spreading the good word Kirri!

    Scott,

Thanks for providing this wonderful resource! Having a process and system to apply to making change can be a life-saver. I will certainly pass this post along! Have a Happy New Year!

    • Scott

Can’t wait to hear what you plan out Joe!

  • Harry

    Great advice on goal setting.

You may want to check out http://www.GoalsOnTrack.com, a very nicely built web app designed for tracking goals and todo lists, and supports time tracking too. It’s clear, focused, easy to navigate, worth a try.

    • Scott

Wow that app looks really good. I’m going to spend some time on it!

  • Sirajuddin

Thanks Scott for providing such an inspirational information about finding our passion. I am very passionate about learning this kind of knowledge.

    • Scott

      That’s exactly where it starts!

Thanks. I can really use this. It’s already January 6th, and I’ve been procrastinating doing my goals for this year. This is my first visit to your blog, and it looks compelling and interesting.

    • Scott

Well you came at just the right time Cathy! I hope you’ll stick around and be sure to check out the Epic Work Tool Kit- free tools for our community.

There is a lot of fun to come…

  • http://thevirtualonlineassistant.com/ Nica

Hi Scott! I found your goal setting guide from Pat Flynn’s Facebook Page and all I can say is that it’s amazing! I like the fact that you set aside a section for considering what things you were proud of in 2011 because that is what I was planning to do for my planning session this weekend. I figured that you will be able to set better goals if you looked back what you did the year before. Your goals will be more specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and timely!

    • Scott

So true Nica. Glad Pat pointed you my way. He’s been an awesome model over the years!

  • Warwick Beauchamp

    Appreciate your resources!!!!

I’m in the process of writing a book on goal setting and achievement myself – would appreciate you having a look and giving me any feedback… If you’d be kind enough to fill in the questionnaire there’ll be a free copy of the book for you when it’s published!

    Have a look here: smartgoalsetting.co

All the best for achieving your goals in 2012!!!!

    • Scott

Good luck with the new book Warwick!

Scott – thanks so much for sharing your goal setting guide. I set aside 2 hours at the park and knocked it out. I’m so excited to share it with my wife as well! Since stumbling upon your website a few weeks ago, I have been impressed and inspired. Your writing style is very captivating and motivating. No doubt the result of your passion for what you’re doing! Thanks for all the resources and may 2012 be your best year yet!

    • Scott

The park is the perfect place to dive into this stuff! And I know how you feel – I get so energized right after I get my goals sorted out for the new year.

I can’t wait to hear what you think of what’s to come.

      Welcome to the adventure Richard!

OK, is anyone having the same problem as I am? I have been trying to download the “free” workbook but either there is no space to enter my email address to log in, or I’m directed to a page to buy the workbook but try it free first. There is no link to email for support. Help??

I think you’ve made some truly interesting points. Not too many people would actually think about this the way you just did. I am really impressed that there is so much information about this subject that have been uncovered and you did it so well, with so much class. Thanks.

I quit my job years ago (2002) which was a really good thing ~ have never regretted leaving my government job for even a micro-second (it was a slow painful death of the soul being there). But things went off the rails in my personal life shortly after and it has been up and down ever since. These past five months have been looking up somewhat but I’m not sure yet what’s different from last year (must think about it). I have every intention of keeping things going in an uphill direction because I’m SO tired of struggling. I’m really happy I found you and your site last night. I have many things on the go and I love what I do but I can feel myself slipping backwards which I don’t want to do. I want to sustain the success I’ve had this year and keep it growing. I feel what you’re offering here is just what I need to help keep me on track. A couple of my goals I’ve already identified are 1. to spend an hour everyday working through the information you have here and 2. learning a Spanish phrase each day until I can speak a second language. I’ve always wanted to be able to speak more than one and now I feel I can do it through sheer practice. Me llamo Lindsey. Soy de Canada! :)
