Live Your Legend LOCAL Event Map

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.

- Margaret Mead

**Fun Update: After first launching the below free local meetup service four days ago, we already have 274 Living Legends from dozens of countries (including India, Russia, China, Nigeria and Argentina) who have applied to become “Hosts” to host local LYL meetups in their hometown! How crazy and amazing is that?!?!

And the best part is we’re having our first same-day Global Meetup on January 7th, 2014 – where events will be hosted all over the world on one day! Should be a real party. I sincerely hope you’ll decide to become a local host as well. I promise it will change your world. You people amaze me. Read on for details…

Today Marks the Beginning of Something Much Bigger than Live Your Legend

This morning I’m going to share something with you all that I think has the potential to change everything around here.

I’d like to think of this as the beginning of a new era and approach to finding and doing work you love.

Over the years, I’ve heard from tens of thousands of you through comments, emails and in-person events – and your number one question and request has always been the same…

“How can I meet inspiring and supportive people?”

Over the years, this has become more and more of the focus of Our Revolution here. And every time we’ve created a new way for you to connect with people who believe what you believe, the results have been mind-blowing.

It all started with the creation of the LYL movement and community. From there, we developed our private Action & Accountability Facebook Group, our Creators’ Guild Facebook Group and the How to Connect With Anyone course. We hand placed members into their own mastermind groups, created the Ultimate Mastermind Workbook, and started offering group coaching and mastermind placement for How to Connect With Anyone. And just this week, we added coaching and mastermind groups for our existing Live Off Your Passion members, too!

Each of these connection tools (many of which are totally free) have allowed our community to get even more powerful results in doing work that makes them come alive.

But I see the future of Live Your Legend as something much bigger than that. I see it as taking connection and community back into the real world, live, real-time in your hometown. This is the exact place where genuine connection existed long before the Internet came along.

That in-person local community is going to be a huge focus for Our Revolution going forward.

In fact, we’ve already had member-hosted events happening all over the world. There’s one in London and Australia each month. We had events in Sydney and Brisbane last Saturday. And other locations have included Zurich, New York, Florida, San Francisco, Portland, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Yale University (Connecticut), Montreal, Toronto and New Zealand, to name a few. The list goes on.

LYL Local Portland Meetup

Our LYL Portland Meetup during WDS – which we’ll be hosting again in 2014!

And the best part?

Almost every one of these events happen without my involvement or physical presence – as they should! After all, I’d hate to be the bottleneck.

All you to need to make magic are two inspired people who believe in the same things. That’s the amazing part.

I thank those of you who have already taken our movement to your hometown. I promise this is just the beginning.

You see, these meetups happen because of one simple fact…

When we begin to surround ourselves with the people doing the things we used to think were crazy and impossible, we start to believe in that same possibility.

And that’s when the world starts to change.

We’ve been working on this for the last few months and today is where you come in…

Today marks the official launch of Live Your Legend LOCAL.

We’ve been building a suite of tools and apps to make it unbelievably easy and fun for you to host your own in-person events in your hometown.

And to celebrate the launch, we are hosting our first-ever Global Same-Day Meetup on January 7th, 2014!!

This is where members of our community will host in-person meetups all over the world on the same day.

Our San Francisco meetup will be – of course – at Samovar Tea Lounge’s flagship downtown location (just like we did last year).

And then it’s up to all of you to decide where the other meetups will be. That’s where we need your help, support and drive.

This only works if you all take it upon yourself to become the host in your hometown.

So I’d like to personally invite you, as a member of our movement and Revolution to help each other find and do work we love…

Please Join Us & Become The Host In Your Hometown

It’s much simpler and more fun than you could imagine.

The purpose of hosting a Live Your Legend LOCAL event is simple: To bring inspiring people together in the real world.

Doing work you love is all about surrounding yourself with the people who make it possible. And there is no better way to genuinely and naturally connect with passionate and inspiring people in your hometown than to become the one who brings them together! As a host, you now get to become that person!

And the best part is that it’s super simple. Our existing team of local hosts has put together a set of tools and guidelines that not only make it possible, but incredibly doable – and a ton of fun! We’ll even take care of 95% of the promotion for you.

All you have to do is find a venue and be welcoming – then we’ll send invitations to our community members near your hometown.

We’ll even create a private Facebook Group for each city so you all can interact and connect before and after the event!

Plus, as a host, you’ll get private access to a host-only community forum where you can connect, share best practices and have some fun together.

And you just wait until you see the in-person connection app we’ve been building. More on that in the next few weeks. :)

Here’s what really matters…

Whether you meet with one person in a cafe or park or you decide to host 100 people at your favorite local restaurant is totally up to you. This is your world. All we care about is that you do your part to welcome and bring together like-minded people who believe in making a difference.

Dozens of members have already done it (and are happy to help) and trust me, you’ll honestly never be the same after you host your first event.

I thought that Alex, one of our long-time community members, said it best in a comment he recently left about our new Creators’ Guild. I think it applies perfectly to our next frontier as well…

“It’s genius, Scott. Regardless of the outcome – we’re all in this sandbox together and that’s all that matters. No one is left out who doesn’t want to be left out, (or is letting the fear talk them out of participating).”

That made me smile.

Everything we create, we create for you. To help you make your unique impact on the world. Without you there’s nothing.

So, if you’re in, please fill out this Event Host form below and we’ll get you all set up with our fun tools, guide, app and forum. If we have multiple host volunteers for the same city, then we’ll go with the person who filled out the form first (so act fast!). And we’ll connect all the hosts so you can plan the event together.

And for everyone else, mark Tuesday, January 7th, 2014 on your calendar. It’s going to be crazy. And I could not think of a better way to kick off the new year than with all of you.

Also, I want January 7th to mark the start of these meetups happening as a monthly routine all over the world. Because it’s showing up, on a consistent basis, that makes dreams real.

I don’t know about you, but I’m starting to see the mission of Live Your Legend with much more clarity and simplicity these days…

Bring. People. Together.

We’ll do our part as long as you promise to show up and do yours.

Here’s to the beginning of something big,

-Scott

Please fill out the form below to become a host!

**Important Note for Attendees: We will announce the meetup locations and details once we have received all Host submissions and confirmed their participation. We hope to announce all the Jan 7th meetups at the beginning of December. Also, since we have a new and improved system, we are no longer using the Meetup Everywhere App. More event details will be coming soon.

For now just know it’s going down on January 7th, so be sure you’re available. And ideally, fill out the below form and become one of the hosts!

  1. How do I find if there is already a meetup near me?

      • Scott says:

Actually guys, we’re no longer going to be using Meetup Everywhere. That served its purpose for a little while but now we have something much more powerful.

We’ll be sharing the new connection app and site in the next week or two once we have all our hosts signed up and their events created. So keep an eye out! But for now just mark Jan 7th.

And just to be safe you could always sign up to be a host! And if we already have a host in your town then we’ll introduce you two so you can host together!

        • Sherry Raspa says:

          Scott –

Sooooo ridiculously excited to have found Live Your Legend. Been looking for, longing for, desperately seeking something like this. I just signed up to be a local host in Portland, OR (haven’t even had time to read through all the materials yet).

Based on the website photo it looks like there are several tribe members here already. Can you get me connected? I am crazy excited to throw my energy and enthusiasm at this and can’t wait to see where the adventure leads.

  2. Alex Mill says:

Wow Scott! The game just keeps getting bigger and bigger. I was floored that you quoted me. Here’s to chasing the fear away into a corner by facing it down! I’m going to get together with someone here in my small hometown to see what we can pull off. We definitely need more passionate people together in one room more often. Viva!

    • Scott says:

Yeahhhh Alex!! Your quote gave me chills and I immediately took note to share it this week. Perfectly put.

And awesome you’ll be hosting your hometown. Even two people is a powerful start. In fact that’s how every revolution starts. And we’ll do our best to get the word out to folks close to you!

  3. I, too, want to know how to see if there is already a meetup in my area. Can you put in a search function, or even just post a list separated by state/region/country?

    • Scott says:

That list is coming soon! But we first have to get all our hosts organized to know where we’ll have events :)

But like I said above, just to be safe you could always sign up to be a host! And if we already have a host in your town then we’ll introduce you two so you can host together!

  4. Amelia C says:

Come on, Vegas! Anyone hosting a Vegas meet up? I’m still working my way through the CWA course so I don’t feel qualified to be a hostess!

    • Scott says:

Oh come on now Amelia! If you are at any point in CWA, you are more than qualified! Seriously. I’m actually going to announce this in CWA this week as our main graduation activity. If a Connect With Anyone member can’t host then who can?? ;). We’ll get you all set up. Just register above and I assure you you’ll have support!

  5. Debbie says:

    Hi there,

I’m not seeing the Jan 7 Samovar Tea Lounge meetup at http://www.meetup.com/Live-Your-Legend/San-Francisco-CA/. Where is it posted to sign up? Thanks!

    Debbie

    • Matias says:

      Dear Debbie,

I think Scott is not using http://www.meetup.com anymore, in a comment he said that they´ll be “sharing the new connection app and site in the next week or two once we have all our hosts signed up and their events created”

For now we´ll just have to keep a big circle in our calendars ;)

  6. Anni May says:

    Hi Scott,

I saw a tweet you posted a few days ago with a link to host a LYL meetup on the 7th of Jan and I signed up through that link. Is this sign up valid or do I need to sign up again through this page? I am very excited to host in Hobart TAS and want to make sure I am on the list (-:

  7. Etienne says:

We hosted 5 meetups in Montreal but unfortunatly no one showed up for the 6th. It’s really difficult to get people engaged enough to participate.

I totally agree with you that local is the way to go and to grow, that people need to meet each other and that the best way to learn is a compination of “self service” content and group meetings to discuss about it.

I tried registering as a host for Montreal, but there is a firewall at work preventing me from confirming the registration. Arrgh!

    • Scott says:

So sorry for the frustration Etienne. This is why we have spent so much time approaching this in a bigger, more powerful way. The key is to set up a system that engages both host and the attendees to really show up and add value. I think we’re getting a lot closer with this next new step. So please be patient as we roll things out as there will always be kinks But we will indeed get this figured out. It’s too important not to!!

And amazing to hear you’ve done what you have in Montreal. I was there for the first one and it was amazing!

  8. I think all my comments on LYL from now on should default to “I’m in!”

I just signed up as a host in Minneapolis – Saint Paul and would love to coordinate the 3rd Twin Cities LYL event on Jan 7th. Time to round up co-hosts again, book a venue, create our Eventbrite, and rock the sweet bajesus out of these awesome events once again!

    • Crys says:

Joel, I was thinking the exact same thing as I read through this!!! Love to find people on the same wavelength… ;)

      • Scott says:

        Well alright!!!

This is going to be fun. And Joel you guys have lead the charge in a huge way up there and have taught us a lot. Thanks for that!

Also this time around we’ll be taking care of the eventbright. More on that soon. Can’t wait to see what this turns into!

  9. Crys says:

I can hardly believe I’m doing this but, “I’m in”!!!

I’m not sure I’m ready, I’m making my way through CWA but at a slower pace and still feel like this is so far beyond where I am but after listening to Derek Sivers, I am trying to put myself out there where I feel fear and resistance and go with it to see what’s in it to learn, and to have one heck of an adventure along the way…

Signing up for Hastings, Michigan- NOW!
    ;)

    • Scott says:

Yeahhhhhh. Well done Crys! And here’s to stepping into the Arena with all of us. You won’t regret it. So much fun to come!

  10. Patricia BT says:

    Hi there!

Of course, I’m in! And ready to talk about it.

For everyone in my area, when I signed up above and in the 2nd form, for “city” I mentioned :

Geneva + Geneva to Lausanne area + nearby France

and I really mean it, if you don’t mind to drive a bit, anyone from Suisse Romande and close French departements, are most than welcome of course. I plan to host between Genève and Nyon.
Anyone want to help? to join?

We will speak French at our events + English if non French speaking expats join us.

    Looking forward!

    • Scott says:

Love it – Events popping up in different languages! You really know how to get a guy going Patricia. Thank you so much for showing up the way you are!

  11. Linda-Marie says:

I have done it! How long should it before I get a mail in return, I haven’t got any?!

    Really excited!

  12. Matias says:

    I´m SO in! haha

I´m afraid LYL, and the comunnity behind it, has become a daily spark in my life. Working with the mastermind group from CWA, watching all the magic in the Creators Guild and seeing people being awesome in the LYL Action Team is something that inspires me to action despite any trouble…

… and I can only wonder what happens when you get people in the same room!! I can´t even stay on my seat! Let´s do this!

I only have a question: I´m from Argentina and – as the maps shows – there aren´t many LYLers around here, and I´ve been thinking that this whole revolution needs to be spread, if I work on some kind of translation or adaptation of the material to Spanish, would it be OK?

    • Scott says:

This is EXACTLY what I’m talking about Matias!!! Amazing to see this. First off your comment and experience with Connect with Anyone and all our connect tools makes me so damn happy!

And YES, yes, yes. We would love for you to do your part to spread the LYL message as much as you can down that way. And don’t worry about that Map. We have many many more people than that in this community. In fact I just checked our Analytics and we have a few hundred people who visited LYL in Argentina in the past couple months. And over a hundred from Buenos Aires. Your people are down there – you and I just have to help make those in person connections!!

Glad you’re in our corner. Please fill out the host form and we’ll get you all the details.

  13. Joana Filgueiras says:

    Hi.
    Anyone in NYC already?
To be honest I have been as lost as I can be in terms of what I want to do. So I don’t know if i am a good person to be a host. But will absolutely love to join some inspiring minds in the Big Apple and if nobody is hosting here yet, I will be in for the challenge.

    • Scott says:

Awesome Joana! As it turns out, if you’re not sure what to do, that might make you the perfect person to be the host. I really mean that. That’s the whole point of these meetups – to help us all find direction and then have the community and accountability to take action on that newfound direction!

And I promise you there are plenty of others in your same shoes and they’d love a place and community to help make progress in their hometown. And I know there are lots of us in NYC. Please fill out the host form and if we have other hosts in NY we’ll introduce you! Thanks for stepping up. I have a feeling you’ll be happy you did :)

  14. Sebastian Sonesten says:

    That sounds great!

I’m afraid I’ll be away from Bristol on the 7th of January so I won’t make it to the launch (if someone else in Bristol organises something), and I will literally have double coursework from uni until June, so big events would be a challenge, but I’d be happy to share our message with friends over a cup of tea once a month! That should be doable and definitely worth it!!

    • Scott says:

Perfect Sebastian. Sharing ides over a cup of tea is where most revolutions start :)

Would love for you to fill out a host form and just do simple cafe meetups. Whatever works for you!

Oh and if Jan 7th doesnt work, you could always do your first meetup the next weekend or something. Most importantly is that you get together. Ideally we do it all on the same day each month but that’s not nearly as important as it happening in the first place!

Thanks for being in our corner Sebastian.

  15. Wouhou! I’m excited to be the host for Malaysia! I don’t even know if there are other readers from here but, heck!, let’s give it a try :)

Hopefully we’ll be able to gather a handful of people! I’ll throw a couple of friends in the bargain, the more the merrier. Thanks for the opportunity Scott!

  16. Kara Parlin says:

I signed up to host for Tampa, FL but I had a question. Are meetups generally scheduled in the evening since it’s a work night (for some)?

    • Scott says:

Awesome!! I’ll actually be in Tampa in late January for a friend’s birthday. Love your city.

As for meetup timing, it’s totally up to you. Most will probably be held in the evenings since that works best for schedules. But this is your world!

All we care about is that you get together :)

  17. vivek says:

I m from India, how can i attend? please mention it

  18. Azhar says:

    Hi Scott

I have taken the plunge and submitted my app to host. For some reason I have not received the confirmation link (checked my junk as well).
How do I get in touch with the Toronto host(s) or more information about spreading the word in Toronto?

    You are an inspiration!

    • Scott says:

Thanks for signing up! If you didn’t get your confirm then please fill the form out again. Sorry about that. And we’ll be sure to introduce all the hosts from the same city. I know we have some folks in Toronto.

So glad you stepped up to join us!

  19. Ajit says:

    hi Scott,

i see India in the map and also you have mentioned it.

please let me know how can i attend the one here in India.
    thxs

    • Scott says:

Details on registering are coming in the next couple weeks Ajit- as soon as we have the events and hosts figured out. Or you could become a host above!

  20. Lovin’ it, Scott!

This has got to be one of the greatest ideas I’ve ever seen anyone put out into the world.

Imagine that… a day, every year, where everyone from all over the world can get together with inspirational, supportive people, no matter what your current background, situation or current relationships? A world of possibility just opens up… ANYTHING is possible…

Looking forward to a big one!

    Brendan

    • Scott says:

      You said it Brendan!!

And what if that day actually happened every month?? Because that’s what we’re shooting for. Jan 7th is just the start :)

  21. Samuel Lim says:

    Hey Scott,

I signed up as a host for Singapore, and found that there is already another LYL-er who has already signed up to be a host in the same area before me. Could you please put us in touch with each other? I didn’t manage to take down his email address, and I don’t want to spam the host sign up form with duplicate entries.

    Thanks!

  22. ona says:

Make sure you let us know next time you are in Dublin, you can pour the pints and I will pay for them ;)

  23. I’m now not certain where you’re getting
your information, but great topic. I needs to spend some time studying more or working out more.
Thank you for magnificent information I was on the lookout for this information for my mission.

  24. I’m taking the leap – I can’t believe this but I feel my life is about to change in a big way and I’m excited to connect with others and get creating local solutions to global challenges. Ireland needs this – Time to go big – so, if there’s isn’t one already I want to start a meet-up in Ireland. I’m from Donegal but thinking of starting with a Dublin hub?

  25. Easkey Britton says:

Question – what if there are no LYL members in my area, can I invite newbies? (I’m from NW region of Ireland, pretty isolated and great need to gather a kick-ass bunch of people together!)

  26. Scott says:

Now we’re talking Easkey! Welcome to the arena :). Just fill out the form above. Best to go with Dublin for the first one but in the future I’m sure we can find some folks closer to Donegal!

Btw, I happen to be certified to pour the “perfect pint” of Guinness. Love that city!

  27. Ciara Conlon says:

Hi Easkey, I’ll be your first attendee! I’m from Dublin and be delighted to attend, actually if you want help with the organising find me @ciaraconlon on Twitter

  28. Scott says:

Absolutely! In fact that’s the point. Part of hosting is doing your best to get some new folks involved. That’s where it gets fun :)

And btw, we already have 89 people from like a dozen countries signed up as hosts!!!

  29. Easkey Britton says:

Stoked! ignore my last comment then so…let’s do this! That’s possibly one of the best accolades you could have, the ability to pour the ‘perfect pint’ of Guinness – will have to put it to the test some day!

  30. Ciara Conlon says:

Make sure you let us know next time you are in Dublin, you can pour the pints and I will pay for them ;)

  31. Easkey Britton says:

    Awesome :)
