“Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.”

-Mark Twain

Welcome to Live Your Legend!

I’m Scott Dinsmore, Chief Explorer around here. But let’s be clear on one thing – while I may have started this community, you are the ones who make it what it is. It is not mine, it’s OURS.

I see my mission as pretty simple: To Explore.

To explore the world, to explore ideas, to explore new ways of doing things, to explore myself, and to help others do the same – so we can better find and do the work that makes us come alive.

That comes from a lot of little (and sometimes big) experiments along the way, and a deep desire to have some type of an impact on the world around us. That’s why this community at Live Your Legend has come together. That’s why we’re all here. And if you’re stopping by for the first time, whether you realize it or not, I have a feeling you’re here for the same reasons.

At Live Your Legend we believe that doing work you love and making your unique impact is a fundamental human right.

You just have to be willing to do the work, make the discoveries and surround yourself with the people who make it possible. If we commit to doing that, the ‘impossible’ starts to become our new normal. That’s when everything begins to change.

That is what this community is designed to do for its members – for YOU. For all of us.

So in case you’re wondering what we stand for around here, this is a breakdown of what we believe and how we live at Live Your Legend. If it resonates, I hope you’ll stick around. This is just the beginning…

How an Idea Begins to Change the World

In the last few months and years we’ve had tens of thousands of people join our movement. About 5,000 new folks join us every month!

We now have over 50,000 Living Legends (from every country in the world!) who make up our community here.

It’s hard for me to believe the momentum this has taken on.

We are actually being the change.

We are inspiring people to find and do the work that makes them come alive. And because of all you, it’s actually starting to make a difference.

So it’s time we made this official.

First off, every movement needs a name – as do its members.

A few months ago, we wrote a post titled From Message to Movement, where I asked you all to chime in to name our movement. After looking through countless comments, it became quite obvious.

Every day this community changes the world, and as of today we have an official name for that change…

The Revolution: Defined as a forcible overthrow of a government or social order in favor of a new system. A dramatic and wide-reaching change in the way something works or is organized or in people’s ideas about it. Sounds about right for us!

The Living Legends: A member of our revolution – all of you. Someone who’s willing to step into the arena and fight the good fight. Who leads each day making your own mark on the world, no matter how big or small – using your unique strengths, talents and passions to help the people around you.

This might seem obvious to many, but it took hearing it from hundreds of you for it to finally feel like home. I just love the ring to it – don’t you?!

If you’re new here and haven’t joined yet, we’d love to have you! Just enter your email below.

Every community, movement and revolution has a set of rules & beliefs by which it stands.

We have very few rules here, but the fact that all of us have committed to embracing them is what has made it possible for us to lead this revolution in the first place. Given how much we’ve grown in the past weeks and months, I figured it’s about time we officially go over the ground rules that so many of us follow without even knowing. **Today I’d like you to read over these and think for a minute if you can commit to living them to the best of your ability. If the answer is yes, then take five seconds and leave a comment below saying “I’m in!” And a special thanks to my good friend Steve Kamb for his insight from his own revolution at Nerd Fitness

The 15 Rules of OUR Revolution

#1. Once You’re In, You’re in for Life.

If you commit to being intentional about the impact you want to have on the world, you will always be welcome here. Living Your Legend is a way of life. This is your home and we have your back any way you need it.

#2. This is OUR Revolution.

This is not mine. This is not yours. It is all of ours. We all contribute and make the Revolution positive and possible. There is no guru. We are just a group of people passionately committed to making our mark on the world. It’s everyone’s responsibility to grow, share and spread the impact we’re creating.

#3. We Take Our Environment Very, Very Seriously.

No one does anything alone. The people around you create who you are. If they inspire you, you’ll be inspired. If they depress you, you’ll be depressed. Those around you absolutely must dream as big or bigger and have as much passion or more than you do. There’s no time for those who don’t inspire and support doing the things that matter to you and the world. Get rid of the doubters, and don’t let the empowering ones leave your sight. You are the average of your surroundings. Choose wisely. Being here is a good start!

#4. Invest The Time & Energy to Know Who You Are - No Sleepwalking Allowed!

The better you know yourself, the more likely you are to do work that matters. Study your strengths, know your weaknesses, identify your values, define your success, learn the things that excite and terrify you. Live a life congruent with who you are. Become a self-expert.

#5. There Is No Failure.

The only way to fail is to never start in the first place. To let that idea die inside of you – to leave your song unsung. To never have the courage to dance. If you try, if you take your crack at making a difference, you have already succeeded. Some things will be a home run. Others will not. But everything is learning. And when we commit to taking action, it’s all a victory.

#6. We Are All Experts. Embrace and Develop Your Knowledge.

Live your strengths. Every one of us is expert enough at something to help someone else in a unique way. Discover what that is and put it to work every day. We are all experts and we are all beginners. Constantly offer help and receive it.

#7. We Question Everything.

Always assume there’s another way. Don’t take things for granted just because everyone else does. That’s usually the best reason to stop listening (see the Mark Twain quote above). None of you are here for average. Ask why. Ask how. Ask why not.

#8. We Don’t Do Things For The Money.

Money will never motivate anyone long enough to handle the swings of pursuing an idea. Passion and the desire to make a difference will. Money is important, and we must remember that our talents, positioned the right way, can be very valuable to people. But money takes the backseat, passion and impact take the front. Rarely do people get rich because they pursued riches. They get rich because they focused their life on helping people and changing the world. Then the money starts to show up – and by then, it usually doesn’t matter anyway.

#9. We Measure Against Our Own Standards, Not Others.

All of us have different definitions of success and goals that likely have nothing to do with those around us. So stop comparing yourself to others. You are your own comparison. Define your success and own it.

#10. We Believe In Everything We Do.

If you don’t have a deep emotional reason for doing the work you do, you’ll likely never do what matters. Know your beliefs. Why do you care so much about the things you do? Nothing big happens without the right reasons. Does what you’re doing actually matter? If you can’t put your heart into it, then get yourself out of it.

#11. Our Life Is An Experiment

We constantly experiment with new people, jobs, projects and experiences. See what sticks. Without experiments, we’ll never learn anything. Without learning, we’ll get nowhere. Our life is a series of experiments – big and small. Make testing a way of life. Live outside of what’s comfortable, and never underestimate the importance of being a beginner.

#12. We Constantly Push Limits & Test What’s Possible.

We are capable of so much more than we give ourselves credit for. Most things are not as impossible as we think. The only way to find out is to try. This is as important with our bodies as it is with business and life. When we start to do things we didn’t used to think were possible, the newfound confidence transfers to all kind of other parts of life. If you just pushed yourself over the finish line of your first marathon (or 5k, for that matter) then why couldn’t you also find a way to double your business’s sales next year? Do your impossible. The fastest way to do the things you don’t think can be done, is to hang around people already doing them. Brainwash the impossible. Make it your new normal. See #3.

This explains why impossible2Possible is Live Your Legend’s official partner charity. Founded by ultra-running legend Ray Zahab, i2P’s mission is to inspire teens to push limits, both physically and mentally, by taking them on wild adventures around the world and sharing their experiences real-time with tens of thousands of students and classrooms. Once these kids realize the things people told them were impossible, are just milestones waiting to be hit, their worlds transform. 5% of all LYL’s sales go to i2P to inspire kids to do the impossible. Learn more about impossible2Possible here.

#13. We Learn by Doing. Taking Action is the Priority.

The only real way to learn is to experiment. None of this matters if you don’t get out and actually do something. The magic doesn’t happen in the learning. It happens in the action you take as a result. When in doubt, do something. Anything. You have to start.

#14. We Are All Leaders – We Are All Followers. We Dance Together.

A revolution without people is just an idea no one’s heard of. We have come together because we believe in the same vision for the world. We believe that work and a career are something meant to be embraced and enjoyed. We believe in having a unique impact. We are all the leaders of that movement. It is our responsibility to take on the role of the leader. We need to become revolutionaries. Maybe that means recruiting one friend or rallying your own army. Lead however you want to lead.

Derek Sivers, a fellow Living Legend and Expert in our Connect with Anyone course, puts it perfectly in his TED Talk on How to Start a Movement. A crazy dancing fool only becomes a movement when that second person decides to stand up and dance alongside him. Not as their follower, but as their equal. As an equal leader who shares the same vision and that same dream. That’s when the scales start to tip. This revolution, this party of ours, would be nothing without you dancing alongside us. Be that first follower. Be that leader. Be the revolution. And most importantly…

#15. Be The Change & Embrace the Live Your Legend Pump-Up Theme Song!

If I could sum up our revolution in a short phrase, I’d borrow from Mahatma Gandhi (as I often do): Be the change you want to see in the world. No matter your vision, you are where the change begins. All of us are where it starts. Live out what you want to see the world become. Inspire the people around you by doing the things that inspire you. And to have some fun with this, let’s take it a step further. There is no faster way to infuse inspiration and change your physical, mental and emotional state than through the right music. There’s a reason boxers enter the ring to a certain song and why good musicians are so powerful and highly paid. We need a song that unifies us. That servers as an anchor to remind us why we do what we do here, and a trigger to fire us up to make a difference.

I used to listen to Tupac before every Jiu-Jitsu match back when I competed. It was like gold. I have a whole list of pump-up songs on my Inspire Me mix on my iPhone, but there is one that gets played every day on my workouts and every time before I take the stage for a big talk. I probably listened to it 8 times before my TEDx Talk. It’s a song my wife used to play when she taught her yoga classes (Thanks for introducing this one to us, Chelsea!).

It’s called Be The Change by MC Yogi. It’s a short summary of Gandhi’s life, mission and impact on the world, spun into an inspiring rap of sorts. I believe it makes for the perfect rallying cry. Click the below YouTube video to give it a listen.

Oh, and for bonus points, let me know your favorite line in the comments!

Mine is…

If you follow your heart and act real bold, next time it’ll be your story that’s told.

When I listen to this song, I believe anything is possible. I hope you agree…

(Don’t see a video? Click here to watch it.)

You are what makes all of this possible.

A unifying set of rules, when followed, makes our impact as a community far greater than the sum of its parts. They are what allow us to do the work that makes us come alive. They are what make this community the family that it has become. They are also what allow an idea to turn into The Revolution. And for this Revolution to begin changing the world. Welcome to the party. Welcome to the family. Welcome to Our Revolution.

You are such a wonderful person and I can’t thank you enough for the inspiration, for the awesome tools you have provided, BUT mostly for having the drive and the passion to stimulate others to have the same. All of us Living Legends are bringing forth the next evolutionary stage of existence by promoting and creating a world of inspired, loving, caring, compassionate people. We are the next Big Bang!!!!

I’m in! I recommend this blog to many friends in hopes that one day they can change their limited thinking and get on board! As a sidenote- this is the 2nd post in a row with a spelling or grammatical error- get that editor on point! lol Sorry, I’m a stickler for grammar. :)

  41. William Holt says:

    Dear Scott,

Thank you!!! This is everything that I live and breathe and hold dear as a spiritual being having this human experience.

What I would like to contribute is a suggestion that we not call them rules. How about Our Credo, or Agreements or Disciplines. Rules usually come from the outside and are made to be________.

We are all inside with you and with each other. I believe that you have many First Followers and you are doing a great job with humility and inspiration and inclusiveness.

    That’s my two cents.

Thank you for all that you are doing being in the world.

    Love well and partner,

  42. Chelly says:

    Hell Yeah! I’m sooo in!!

  44. Alicia says:

I am in! I am terrified and have a lot on my plate right now so I feel stressed and strained, but I am tired of “just trying to get by” “waiting” for the right time. Let’s go!

    • Angela says:

It’s the best place to start! I was like this, and when you become just so sick and tired of existing, instead of actually living you make HUGE changes! Good luck Alicia, you’ll do great things! XO

    • Kim Look says:

I feel exactly like you–trying to make the transition is hard and stressful. But once you have an inkling of an idea of what may come and how happy you could be living your soul purpose, you can never go back. The only feeling you can have from not trying, is regret; and no one is a fan of that.

  45. I’m in! Loved the video!! Also love the badge idea!

  46. gbcherry says:

    I’m in baby

  49. [email protected] says:

I am also in!!! Directly from Ljubljana, Slovenia!

  50. OH Yeah Baby!! I dunno where I’m going, but Debra inspired me so much yesterday. I don’t NEED to know what it is exactly, but i sure as hell know what it’s going to look like. That really changed everything for me. So THANK YOU. I’m so in, in in!

  51. Kiko says:

    Of course I’m in.

  52. Tiffany says:

    I AM IN!!!!

  53. Scott, I came across Live your Legend during the journey I started a couple of months back of figuring out my purpose(s) and strengths are, and articulate how I can best serve the world as I know the rest takes care of itself in the process (i.e. money, etc.)

Being in a job that I really wanted 4 years ago, but couldn’t be more unfulfilling now, it is definitely time to Live my Legend.

I am in for the long haul and even though I still don’t know what that looks like, I am clear it is happening. So THANKS for everything you provide. I feel the love :)

And watch this space :) My legend is in the making.

P.S. Awesome idea of the badges. I will add one to my site for sure!!!

I think thats a great way to start kids on their path to being a legend!

  62. Love your post Scott, it’s awesome and I’m totally in!

  63. These “rules” perfectly articulate my views on life. Now I’ve got an awesome place to point people to that has them all in one place. Love this! And I love the idea of the badge!

  64. justinmiller06 says:

    This is BOSS!

  65. Scott, I’m one of those new followers from the last two months. Timing was divine intervention. I am in! And love the badge idea. Would wear it proudly. Keep up the great work!

  66. Sue Davies says:

    Too right I’m in!

  67. Hi Scott and LYLers :) I’m in as long as your movement doesn’t turn religious or into a cult ! :)

  68. Shlomi Cohen-Ganor says:

Ok, so here I am, finding myself on the side of the majority of this community, and pausing to reflect like Mark Twain.

The choice of name for the movement scares me. The word “Revolution” brings up thoughts of violent acts, even though the people making them always honestly believe they are doing the right thing. The fact that there are rules and people take them seriously also scares me. Rules are an extremely slippery slope for people to stop thinking and do what the crowd does, or what the crowd collectively labels as valid acceptable behavior. And we all know where that can lead to.

I think defining a vision is better than defining rules.

And I think “The Vision” or “Making the dream a reality” are better names than “The Revolution”.

    Any joiners?

I want to follow the movement and learn! I want to create a community of people who strive to improve on self-confidence and assertiveness- my personal challenge which I know is also a challenge to many. I do not need to be alone in the challenge. I want to build a community that will be for each other in this direction.

I’ve been following LYL in the sidelights. It’s about time a talk- haha. I want to be a living legend :)

  75. I am in! It’s nice to see such a beautiful, growing community of people waking up to thier dreams!

  76. I really like #5. That’s the step I’m working on most in 2013. There are always excuses and reasons not to follow your passion. But every time we try, we learn and that’s the key for personal growth. Finding out passions is one thing, actually doing them is a whole other monster.

  77. JT Schonhoft says:

    I’m innnnnnnn!!!! Hells yea!

    • Ladyk says:

OSHO… the sound name. During great enlightened moments, I lose all sense of words for their meanings are lost with the knowledge that they could never truely express the blissful experience!

IT IS there.. OSHO.. resonates …. a beautifully exquist.. rush of sound!
**BIG SMILES** I understand why he chose such a name!!!

  151. Els R says:

I’m in! A few weeks ago I gave up my job and decided to leave my town. When it doesnt bring you more than a filling of your everyday, ask yourself if you can find IT somewhere else better. I once wrote the line (originally in Dutch) “Only leave something in the condition that it’s in, when you have thought about what the condition would be when you decide to change it”.

  152. dan says:

  160. Steve says:

No time like the present! I’m in!

  161. Christopher Zenner says:

I’m 41 years old and lost my most recent job at the end of August. Since the age of 15, I’ve turned the “hamster’s wheel,” churning out widgets of one kind or another in one meaningless job after another. Some of these jobs were so opposed to my personal values–including the last one–that I questioned if I wanted to see another day. Unlike most, I never attempted to climb to the ladder; I was given the foresight to see that stuff and status would never lead to happiness, and I had no interest in stepping on people simply to acquire a more comfortable misery. Unfortunately, I have yet to find my passion. I just know I desperately want to give something, to build a legacy, to change the world–even if that means only touching a single heart. I can’t help but think that “stumbling upon” this website today is a bit of serendipity. Pardon my language, but F*** YEAH, I’M IN!

    • Christopher Zenner says:

(“… to climb to the ladder …” = “… to climb the ladder …”–Sorry for my typo!)

      • Wow Chris- well I’d say you came to the right place!

And this gave me chills: “I just know I desperately want to give something, to build a legacy, to change the world–even if that means only touching a single heart.”

That is why LYL exists. Welcome to the adventure.

        • Christopher Zenner says:

Thanks for the personal note, Scott; I’m honored. After listening to your TEDTalk (that’s how I found the LYL community), you feel like something of a celebrity, though I know you don’t view yourself that way. Subsequent to posting my message last night, I discovered the Live Off Your Passion course. At this point, I think taking the class is an inevitability; it appears to speak to everything I need in this moment. And to see Leo Babauta endorse and participate in the course … WOW! That man has been a personal hero since a friend recommended his blog a couple of years ago. That “said,” I now have a co-favorite blog. ;]

    • Kendra says:

Like you Christopher I stumbled upon Scott’s website…Awesome! I don’t think that anything ever really happens by ‘accident,’ though, do you?

      • Christopher Zenner says:

        No, Kendra, I don’t. =]

        • Brandi says:

We’re all in this together! It’s so comforting to know there are others out there with stories similar to my own. I too have never had the ambition to climb my way to the top. My motto is “work to live” and that’s how it’s always been. But I’m starting to twist my mind around a new theory that working and living can be blended into FULFILLMENT!
I’m off the hamster wheel right now. Unemployed and seeking the next adventure. Actually, since we’re being honest here, I’m seeking the next paycheck (uh, hello, I do need more shoes!) However, I’m starting to think there’s a real reason as to why I’m having a hard time finding a job. And that maybe NOW is the time to do my thang!
          Thanks for the inspiration Chris!

  167. Lucia says:

I’m IN! Been IN for awhile alone, so am really glad you started this community!

Recently lost my job of 6 years that I initially thought was the best thing but then eventually made me miserable. I ‘mentally’ let go of it to free myself to follow my passions. Long story short, the universe followed through. I want to see a better world… always have. Won’t sell myself short ever again.

  168. Jason says:

    I’m in.

  169. Kim Look says:

I was not raised in this type of culture. I was raised typical blue color worker. Job satisfaction was never questioned. Just put your head down and work hard. Greatness, wellbeing, wealth, etc was taboo and never mentioned. In fact, subconsciously I was taught to believe those things came by luck, and was never going to be lucky enough to have them.

Then my husband started five companies over ten years. The risk, stress and belief you have to have in your abilities and purpose were like nothing I had ever experienced before. At first it was very uncomfortable for me and then it became more and more of what I believed.

Although he worked harder than I have ever seen anyone, they never really took off and we were floundering to pay the bills. I woke up one day and decided I was going to take the bull by the horns. One thing led to another and I eventually found my soul purpose, real values and dream job. I had been happy for three years.

Recently though, I have had a realization that although I love what I do, I can no longer progress and in fact am being held back from reaching full potential. Two weeks ago I committed to myself and a few others that I AM going to change career paths. To my amazement, this has been difficult to handle. I am nervous about leaving something I am making a difference on, and something I am finally paying the bills with.

Your Ted Talks video and website have motivated me to keep going. I am grateful for a society that supports my theories and quest to be happy, since my upbringing has always told me that I should just be damn glad I have a job. I made my teenage boys watch your video and have already ordered the poster for every room in my house.

I do believe it and want to teach it as well as live it! I’m in!

  232. Hi Scott and everybody else in this movement,

Yes i am in. For me it is about maximizing love karma. What i missed in my subculture, and in my family, were the lessons how to relate, how to love, how to build adequate intimit loverelationships and about how to build good sexual intimacy.

This is one of the taboos so many people do not dare to talk about. But for me it became a quest. After i could not find answers in therapy land, i decided to create my own therapy in this. First I did set up a community for women who suffered from vaginismus. I started to give lectures about it and spoke at a congress about is. When everybody started to call me a sexologist, if finally became one. Now for many years i have helped women to overcome vaginismus. I have written 4 books for this women, number 4 will be published in dec 2013. ( At the moment i am ready for the next step, and that is the prevention of this tyoe of problems, by changing and redefining the dating scene, by creating a platform for new psychosexual education for everybody who wants to maximize their lovelife and their love karma (in THIS life, right now).

The new upcoming website name i stated above. It is not online yet, but will soon. It will be a community website. It is thrilling to me to do so. Also redefining love. Nowadays, i understand that my past was my lifeschool that prepared me to do this thing. I have to, I cannot not do it. Be the change that i wish to see in the world.

Thanks Scott for creating this community and this opportunity to share. So great to meet many other people who also want to live their live with passion and change the world.

    I am in.

The taboo title, I believe, perpetuates the problem ..creating an idea of shame and ignorance, passed down. Only when we open our minds unafraid to explore this beautiful and intimate gift, then we shall learn and teach others to step up and seek the many ways and deepths of love!!! Soulfully, joyfully

I cant wait to enjoy your site! LOVE

    Hi Scott,
Just wanted to share with you the inspiration that you and others in this community have given me. I recently left a job in Management Consulting, because it didn’t feel like I was surrounded by people who built me up and encouraged me to go beyond. Since I have moved to Boulder Colorado, taken a position managing at a software company and have surrounded myself with amazing entrepreneurs who encourage and inspire me daily to build my own project from my passions. Sometimes it only take a little push to take the leap and I appreciate everything your doing.

Take the risk, make the change and live your life the way you dreamed of!

  292. David says:

I’m in. I’m only 25, but I’ve lived a lifetime. Recently I came to the revelation that I want to live my happiness and live who I am in my heart. My friend sent me your TEDx video. After watching I realized that this Revolution holds my dreams and so it seems to be all of OURS. Thank you for the boost. This is exactly what I needed to get me going. I’ve made a promise to myself to go talk to a person that started a non profit similar to what I have imagined in my head to surround myself with their passion and learn all I can to do what I love. Thank you all. I’ve read a great many of the comments and am honored and excited to be a part of something bigger!

  293. Ali says:

I’m in. All the way my friend. Hit me :-)

  296. Liam says:

    I’m in! Yup! :)

  297. Kurt says:

It’s uncanny that I stumbled upon Scott’s TEDx video at such a crossroads in my life.
I sold my equity position in a very profitable company 4 years ago. I stayed on another year as a consultant before deciding to leave almost 25 years of me behind.
I’ve spent the last 2 years not working and thinking I’d have the “space” I needed to figure out how to live passionately. I’ve realized I’m the very definition of “Analysis-Paralysis”.
So, here I am at 52 years of age and, with a giant leap of faith, saying “I’m in”.

  298. Chris Meagher says:

You bet I’m in. I saw Scott’s TedTalk link on Youtube as I was watching something else. I thought, oh yeah, another self-help guru, yadda-yadda, I don’t have any need for that. I know what I want to do with my life, I know what my passion is, I just need to get off my arse and do it. But then I thought, well I never know what I might get from hearing this or that, or reading this or that, so I watched his talk, was moved, and checked out the website, and was drawn into it all. What really drew me in was suddenly feeling very supported in becoming the living embodiment of my deepest passion, and more important than that is feeling that I can support others in becoming living embodiments of their deepest passions, of being part of a community of individuals supporting and inspiring each other to be the change we want to see in the world, to be a part of the revolution of a beautiful new world filled with individuals living their deepest passions together, and going ever deeper and ever further in Authenticity, Beauty, and Honesty. I love it. Hell yes I’m in. Thank you all, especially those who began this movement.

    • Scott says:

Music to my ears Chris!! I cannot tell you how exciting it is to hear about your experience with the site and how welcomed you felt. That is exactly why we’ve built what we have. So fun to hear it connecting with you.

  302. Jennifer says:

I’ve been longing for this! I am in!

  303. Kirsten says:

Timing couldn’t be more perfect.. all this time I was thinking I was alone in questioning why work should be just work, and that it was wrong and naive to desire doing work you love, are passionate about and expect nothing less from the people you surround yourself with.

How ironic to get introduced to this entire worldwide community of like minded people through the work environment that stands for everything that is holding me back from pursuing happiness and being passionate in work and life!

So hell yeah, I’m in and super excited to continue this journey with all of you!!

  304. Chris says:

I just completed the 27 Questions to find your passion work book, and have reaffirmed what I want to do with my life. I understand my self better now and I am happy to now be a part of this community of inspired, and inspiring individuals. I am in.

Good luck man, I’m from a very small town in New Zealand and I was a high school dropout that no one expected anything from. Now I live in a big city, have a job that I love, am starting a business that I am passionate about, and doing some study and planning my wedding for this time next year. Haters are always gon hate, but don’t let them get under your skin because the only way they win is by bringing others down. If anything feel sorry for them coz in 10 years they won’t be laughing

Thanks to everyone for being here and for being who you are!

  399. joanna blake says:

No! I’m not in Scott! I love this community and the opportunities to support like-minded people it offers but I’m not signing up to no ideology and set of rules! You are simply replacing old with new but still the same discourse – ideology and its dead! You quote Ghandi but many books have been published discussing his part in the partition of India which saw thousands slaughtered. And, if I may be so bold as to say – i think you are starting to suffer from a touch of Messiah complex. Why would you want people to sign up to something? Please don’t think I don’t support the good work this community does – I do – but signing a set of rules……being a member of someone’s revolution… seems LYL has lots its plot!

    • John Young says:

Some great points Joanna. I can not disagree with you on any of them. However I hope to effect change from within.

    • Scott says:

Well thank you for calling me out Joanna. I’m not sure whether it’s more exciting to hear someone say “I’m in” or “No way – I’m beating my own drum!” Either makes me pretty happy.

Thanks for questioning things. That’s what makes this community what it is!

  400. John Young says:

Holy cow, I am SO IN! I turned away from email for a bunch of the day and you’ve got 530 comments here! Hurray for us!

Thank you so much for putting the mission into perspective. We MUST approach Life with the attitude that THERE IS NOTHING WRONG in order to see it as it truly is — MIRACULOUS! If I don’t see it that way, it’s a good sign that the voices in my head are trying to drag me down and frame my life in a way that is not congruent to my deepest heart’s desire. So big breath in, big breath out and bellow: YES! Take me Life! I’m YOURS! (At least that’s how I get current :) )

  414. ger corcoran says:

  485. Scott,

I am 100% in for our lifetime! Thank you so much Scott and the rest of your team for creating Live Your Legend, facilitating human connectedness and possibility of like-minded individuals coming together for such a wonderfully powerful common purpose. I whole-heartedly agree with and support our collective mission and vision for the world and for people at large within the life that we all lead. I’m excited and energized for all that comes next, am looking forward to getting to know one another and supporting each other, and am dedicated to our individual and mutual paths and responsibilities towards enhancing peoples’ lives and helping others access their potential.

My top passion and the field in which I thrive is in Psychology, particularly Positive Psychology. I believe that living life fully, with self-awareness, growth and experience, via meaning and purpose, is a fundamental human right. I am inspired by ordinary and extraordinary people, past and present, a strong sense of human connectedness, and strong values and beliefs about people and life itself. When I learned about Positive Psychology starting in Spring 2011, a year before graduating from college in Spring 2012, I immediately realized that this is where the action is and this is what I want to pursue going forward in the direction I care about. So much has happened and developed in my life since then, both personally and professionally, and I’m eternally thankful and grateful for the support and inspiration I’ve received and gained over time and life experience since then.

I aspire to be a professional of Psychology, Coach, Educator, and Writer, all towards enhancing peoples’ lives and helping others access their potential. My vision for the world and people within it is that as many people as possible understand and value themselves and one another by living and experiencing their own passions, strengths, talents, with enjoyable, meaningful and purposeful ways of life with happiness and fulfillment.

By joining Live Your Legend and being in such a wonderful, profound community, I feel at home, acknowledged, encouraged and supported in a way I’ve never experienced before. I want to help, support and inspire as many people as possible, out in the world and here in Live Your Legend via who I am and what I have to offer, and to work and collaborate alongside like-minded individuals and professionals towards a common purpose. It’s both an honor and privilege to take part in Live Your Legend’s mission and vision with like-minded people of meaning and purpose.

    Take care,

I was in when it seemed out or when Thoreau and Emerson, Cezanne and DaVinci were my guides … Later, I guess. Joseph Campbell…

I had my own dead poets society at age 12 with Emily Dickinson, Blake, and Goethe.

As an artist, it was the norm to live one’s legend, to be an original, and it took a lot of tweaking to do one’s passion and make a living, but this new revolution is a certain reframing and community oriented…

I am willing to learn and change and connect in these new ways…do hope I can break free of my impasse to the blog/website thing or else just declare I am with you in spirit. Truly admire your work and writing, and the community and network you are creating with such dedication, enthusiasm, and love!!!

Best wishes to you and all on this journey!

As I attend college and work in a fast food environment I am finding out more and more about what I enjoy and don’t enjoy doing. I love cooking, but I don’t enjoy the pressure to always talk the customer into up-sizing their order. I know their is a way to make catering affordable to all that want it and I will provide it. No up-sizing for just $$ more.

  595. Kevin J. (Calgary, Alberta, Canada) says:

First, let me say I respect you, your site, and your work, and thank you for sharing it with me and inviting me into your LYL community. I couldn’t find your personal e-mail address so I’m posting this here, but I think it’d be a-ok for you to scrub the following, if you could answer me privately.

Okay (deep breath) here goes: I was drawn to your site after seeing your amazing TED talk, and up until your recent promotion of Jonathan Fields’ ideas, I have been nothing short of blown away by your generosity, your willingness to share, your frankness, etc.

Here’s where I got seriously worried: I tuned into the webinar last night, and when Mr. Fields starting talking about the Arab Spring and revolutionary tactics, it occurred to me that it is potentially morally objectionable to appropriate the tactics of nonviolent revolution and repurpose them for personal economic gain. Here’s what’s underpinning my argument:

The premise that people should take tactics from nonviolent revolution to apply for personal economic gain seems deeply cynical and presumes that only overt dictatorships require revolution. In other words, you’re based in San Francisco, right? I’m in Canada. What makes us so sure that North America doesn’t require a nonviolent revolution to overthrow the covert dictatorships of economic elites in our own societies? Would it not be reckless to use those tactics for our own personal gain, instead of using them for the purpose they are intended i.e. genuine, revolutionary change?

Historically, people who have appropriated the tactics of revolutionaries for personal gain have done so with outrageously horrible consequences. Example: Steve Jobs. Steve Jobs brought the hippie, New Left ethos to the corporate world in the 1970s. His company has been wildly successful, to be sure, and is certainly a clear example of what you and Mr. Fields are advocating above. But doesn’t Apple operate factories in horrendous conditions in China (Foxconn)? Didn’t Apple recently accumulate more money in profits ($40 billion +, see than would be required to end world hunger (see Is that the “revolution” that Live Your Legend is all about?

If this is the case, so be it. You are free to think and promote what you want. It just strikes me as deeply contradictory that you, a man of integrity, kindness and generosity, would support appropriating the tactics of oppressed people for personal gain instead of self actualization – or perhaps a legitimately meaningful revolutionary project.

Am I off-base, here, Scott? If I am, please let me know. I’m deeply saddened at the prospect that this could end my respect for your incredible body of work.

PS – I am not a troll, nor am I trying to criticize you personally Scott, I just feel like I’ve lost the plot here.

  596. Lidia says:

    I am totally in!

Scott & the Live Your Legend Team: Thank you very much for this amazing community that you have created. I have the feeling I watched your video in the perfect moment, in the perfect place. 599. Matt says:

Like letting the Genie out of the bottle. I have spent years pondering working vs doing something for the good of mankind. There seems to be a disconnect between big business and society. It seems a fundamental shift from profit at any cost to profit with the good of mankind must take place. We must stop emphasizing education to make all the same rather than embracing ,celebrating and encouraging individuality and and our differences. Education is the key to peace and harmony.

  600. Natalia says:

    I’m in!

  602. Bonnie says:

I was born in !. My mother always told me that when I borrow things from others that I should return them in a better condition than I found them. I guess I could say I’m borrowing a space on earth. I would love to say that I can, in my own way, return it better than how I found it. I am studying to be a social worker , and after a few degree changes and internships here and there, for the first time I am excited about the prospect of having a full time job. Who would have thought! But it’s insanely true :)

  603. Dimmak Pearce says:

The Revolution: Defined as a forcible overthrow of a government or social order in favor of a new system. A dramatic and wide-reaching change in the way something works or is organized or in people’s ideas about it. Sounds about right for us! –
Just don’t like this part about forcible overthrow of the Government. If one of the group get involved with something radial and they find this statement they can come after the whole group. Everything else is fine. Can you please consider just changing this definition for the group Thank you!!!
