The 4 Required and Necessary Steps to Discover Your Passion + Our Latest Course: 21 Days to Discover Your Passion!
“To realize one’s destiny is a person’s only obligation.” – The Alchemist
Last week we uncovered a few myths about discovering your passion. So, now that we know that passion actually exists, let’s get to discovering the darn thing!
As we’ve already mentioned, living with passion is living in the state of doing things that matter to you. Not to someone else, not to what society says is successful. Rather doing the things that are on your path of success. Because after all, you are the only one who can define what you want out of your life…
In my opinion, living a passionate, fulfilling and happy life is about one thing. There is no single culture, religion or geographic area that delivers these said “happy people.”
The thing happy people have in common is that they spend their time doing things that they love.
Simple as that. They spend their time doing the things that matter to them in a way that serves a greater purpose. As much as you might think that spending all day doing yoga is what you want to do, that will never actually fill you up for the long term, unless you are giving back in some way. We are meant to grow and to give, so all the people who truly live filled with passion spend their time doing the things that are in alignment with their defined purpose and therefore give them a sense of fulfillment.
And want to know the best part about that? It’s available to all of us. It’s not that a select few were tapped with the magic “happy” wand. Those who have discovered how to life with passion, purpose, fulfillment and happiness have simply done the work to discover their gift and figure out how to give that gift back to the world.
However, in order to spend your time doing what you love, you first need to know what you love. And then you need to know how to apply that to your life. This is absolutely the biggest roadblock of all between those who love their life and those who trudge through life.
Now, don’t beat yourself up if you aren’t there yet. We are not taught to do this self discovery. In fact, we are often laughed at when we think different and are taught to unlearn what we love to do so that we can be successful achievers—only to wake up with seemingly everything, but actually feel empty…
And that is exactly why we’ve created 21 Days to Discover Your Passion. So that you can have a step by step guide through the passion discovery process.
You can find out all the information you need about the course here and check out this video from our Chief Inspiration Officer, Chelsea Dinsmore, where she gives you a brief intro to the course.
The 4 Required and Necessary Steps to Discover Your Passion
If you’re ready to take your life with two hands and begin that process of discovery, to walk an uncertain path, to quit over-thinking it, to stop searching outside of you and begin looking inside, you’ve got to follow the four steps listed below.
And after all, when is a better day to start feeling alive?
In order to live a life of passion, you must:
1. Build Your Mindset
The majority of us—or at least the 80% who are unsatisfied with their jobs— have been so conditioned to live someone else’s or society’s dream that we have stopped actually dreaming for ourselves!
This is why you see seemingly “successful” people, those who have achieved what society tells us is success—the money, the status, the possessions—yet they are totally miserable. Because if you are not living life on your own terms, you will never be fulfilled.
And in order to do this, we need to unlearn some of the stories we’ve been told, we need to believe it is possible, we need to start to do things that inspire inspiration—so we can continue to follow the spark that lights us up.
This takes a strong mind, a strong spirit and a belief in what is possible. And the road to get there is by reworking some of the ways we’ve been taught to think for years.
2. Create Congruency
Someone who lives in congruence acts in direct accordance with their dreams, desires, beliefs, values, mission and goals. They do not let the thoughts of others affect their approach to the world. They take their own unique path, paved by their understanding of themselves.
That’s the key: to shed all the layers we’ve all built up over the years and actually understand yourself and what you want, rather than following a path because you are supposed to or because it is what you should do.
Understanding what actually matters to you (logical or not) and living it out is the key to your freedom.
3. Environment Is Everything
No one successful does it on their own. Anyone who has lived the life of their dreams has a team of people in their corner. The people that show them what is possible, the people that guide them along their path, and the people who keep them accountable when the times get tough.
Living a life of purpose comes with challenges—but it also comes with the greatest reward of all—joy, appreciation, freedom, respect, fulfillment and so much more! Having the right people in your corner is a necessary and required step to navigate the path.
4. Set Up Rituals for Success
We’ve said it time and again: knowledge is nothing if you don’t do anything with that knowledge. In order to accomplish, you need to execute.
However, that is tough to do if you do not have the rituals in place to get you to take that first step, and then the next and the next. Having rituals to keep the momentum going is the most important step in keeping your passion alive instead of letting your dreams die inside of you.
Many of you have shared statements that go something like this:
- All I know is that I want to do something different.
- I don’t know what I’m passionate about. If I did, I’d be doing something about it.
- Can you really have a job that you actually love? Isn’t a job just a job?
- I would do something different if I only knew what to do.
- What will my friends and family think if I pursue something different?
- I have been a teacher/lawyer/doctor, etc. for so long, I don’t have any other skills!
- Who am I to think I can do something different when I am lucky to even have a job?
If any of these sound familiar, don’t worry—you’re not alone. Our sole purpose is to help you get from where you are now—knowing you want something different, something more, but not exactly sure how to get there—to where you want (and deserve!) to be—doing work that actually excites you!
