The Top 15 Reasons We Don’t Quit Jobs We Hate: What is Your #1 Excuse?

Happy Monday to you. Re-energized and excited to get back to work today?

Or are you feeling something else? Dread, fatigue, or maybe just preparing yourself to go through the motions for another week?

If so, we’re gonna help change that for you but make sure your boss isn’t looking over your shoulder!  🙂

Are You Living Your Legend? The best version of you?

Hard to know, right?  Well, we invested more than a decade of time and thousands of dollars on research and experiments to find an answer to that question.  Done!

We now offer our community a wildly popular (and free) test that will quickly tell you whether or not you are truly Living Your Legend. Hundreds of thousands of you have taken the test. The results can be shocking and are a wake up call for most people. Make sure you make it all the way to the bottom for more details about this potentially life-awakening test.

Now let’s talk a bit about WHY we keep doing work we hate.

By now, you probably already know the terrifying statistics:

  1. More than 80% of people don’t enjoy their work.
  2. Nearly 75% don’t know what they are passionate about.

Live Your Legend’s entire mission is to turn these statistics upside down!

Imagine a world where 80% of people can’t wait to get to their jobs! If people spent time doing things they loved and were passionate about, the world would be an altogether different place!

Because when you spend more time living your legend, you become a better version of yourself—and everyone around you becomes better, too.

That change begins a ripple felt around the world…

We’re here to serve the 80% who are unfulfilled in their work BUT committed to finding and doing work that matters to them. It’s crazy to think that so many people are willing to continue to act in a way that doesn’t make them happy.

No more.

If you were unhappy, you’d want to change that, right?

For more than a decade, we’ve heard from thousands upon thousands of people—many of them in terrible pain, struggling through days of unfulfilling work. So much potential left on the table.

When you have hundreds of thousands of passionate people interact with your work on a monthly basis like we do, you can collect meaningful data, which leads to some powerful insights we can all learn from.

Here’s one insight: why don’t more people do something to improve their situation?

The answer?

They have a set of stories they tell themselves that hold them back.

We’ve heard every reason under the sun for why their situation is different—why they are unable to break the chains and do something that actually excites them.

The wild thing is that most people have the same stories holding them back.

See if you agree and if any of these sound familiar.

After all, the first step is identifying the problem. Solutions come next…

Legend Reality Check: Believe us, we know making the transition can be unbelievably challenging. We never mean to discredit that. But there are still examples everywhere of people in worse situations than you, who still manage to find their way. We will never promise you it will be easy. But we firmly believe you can do it and we’ve built an entire community to help support you.  Sometimes, the best way to find and do work you love is to look for better opportunities at your current company.  For risk-averse individuals, this is frequently the best course of action.

With that said…

Which reasons are preventing you from living the life of your dreams?

  1. I don’t know what I’m passionate about.
  2. I don’t know how to make money from my passion.
  3. The people around me will think I’m crazy if I quit my job to follow my passion.
  4. I don’t have anyone to go to for advice, support or encouragement.
  5. I can’t find the courage to start.
  6. What if I fail? (Ouch! Who doesn’t feel this one?)
  7. I have a family, mortgage and financial obligations that I’m responsible for.
  8. My passion is not the kind of thing you can make money from; it’s just a little hobby.
  9. I’m not qualified enough. There are plenty of experts in my field with more experience than me.
  10. Between my current job, my family, trying to stay healthy, and all the other responsibilities i have, I don’t have any time to work on my passion.
  11. It’s too risky. In this economy I need to keep any job security I can find.
  12. I have a terrible time following through.
  13. I’ve never heard of someone who’s been able to make a living off my specific passion.
  14. I’m too old and waited too long. I wish I had thought about this 25 years ago.
  15. I spent years studying something in university that I can’t stand doing now. But it would be way too much of a waste to switch now.

You. Are. Not. Alone. We ALL feel these at times.

Here’s the thing. The people who love what they do broke through these challenges. Some how, some way, they overcame. But they’re no different than you.

Living a life of purpose and passion is just that—a way of life. Those who wake up excited aren’t just the lucky ones; they have conditioned themselves to experience and deserve the life of their dreams.

They put the time and effort in—and at any cost. It’s hard work. But it’s fulfilling work you’ll never regret when you look back from your deathbed.

What are the top 2 or 3 excuses that are holding you back?

Take another minute and look back through the list. Mark the ones you’ve heard in your head over and over.

Remember your top 2 or 3 for the action step below.

Legend Story: You are not immune to these top 15 challenges, to this emotional baggage, because you went to a top university. In fact, that can sometimes make it worse.

Imagine what kind of pressure an Ivy League graduate has on them to conform. To play someone else’s game.

We’ll share with you how a member of our community, a Yale graduate, stopped doing what society told her to do, faced her own challenges and began doing work she loves.

She fully committed to Becoming a Self Expert, Pillar 1 of our framework, and was the winner of our latest Free Start a Blog Dream Job Writing Challenge. Outstanding Job, Melinda!

In less than a year Melinda found her Pillar 4 work and is now Doing Something That Matters by Leading, Serving and Giving! Her inspiring story is coming soon… we’re literally waiting for her to get her website ready to handle the massive traffic that is sure to come her way!

(Melinda, your goal of having lunch with Oprah is already set in motion! 🙂 )

Success stories are everywhere, if you want to see them. Best of all, success stories follow a specific blueprint we can all follow. A proven framework to model.

Sorry to digress… but we can’t help ourselves. The stories we see are so damn inspiring! Real life heroes are all around us!

*****

We have news for you. Every one of the Top 15 “reasons” is nothing more than an excuse. A story we tell ourselves that doesn’t serve us.

These are the most dangerous thoughts in the world because believing them can kill your dreams.

Disproving them is what changes your world.

Every excuse and assumption needs to be tested and proven right or wrong.

When we do that, we can start to move mountains.

Remember, everything was impossible until someone did it.

Many times we simply haven’t been around enough successful people to know what’s possible and what’s not. The solution may be that simple for you.

Environment is everything! And surrounding yourself with passionate and supportive people who won’t let you fail is the single greatest hack on the planet.  #1.

Are the people around you, professionally and personally, allowing you to become the person you’ve secretly known you were destined to become?

It doesn’t matter where we are on our journey, we can all benefit from continually adding to our “mastermind” team around us!

(Unapologetic and proud pitch to those of you in need: our flagship course is based on this #1 hack. It’s called How to Connect with Anyone and it’s changed many lives. Our most popular course is offered via an always-overflowing wait list just a few times per year.

To guarantee an early spot at 50% off the normal price, you can pre-enroll here.  This is the first time we’ve ever opened it up for pre-enrollment. It’s also the first time we’ve offered the course at a discount. If you’re interested, but not sure yet, join the wait list and we’ll let you know when the course opens up again. But if you want to guarantee your spot and lock in this special price, pre-enroll now before we take it down.)

Building the right team around you is the quickest way to overcome any of the Top 15 challenges. Surrounding yourself with people already doing the impossible makes everything possible!

It’s a game changer for both introverts and extroverts alike!

So we’ll ask you one more time…

Which of the above 2 or 3 stories (excuses) have you been telling yourself the most?

Now this is the key, FOCUS. What is YOUR #1 EXCUSE? That one that haunts you and needs to be destroyed?

What is THE one that if you were to finally overcome it would make all the others seem easy?

Are you willing to face it head on and make a breakthrough?

Tell us your #1 excuse in the comments, if you’re feeling brave enough to share.

Congratulations! Awareness is just the first step. If you made it this far, you’re well on your way. Progress will happen as fast as you’re willing to commit to breaking through the discomfort.

Stay tuned for part 2 and we’ll share with you the top ways to break through.  Plus, a can’t-fail strategy that is right in front of you that you likely aren’t using.

A strategy used by all successful people.

(By the way, we already shared with you the #1 thing you can do right now to begin to change your unhealthy job situation from “I can’t stand going to work” to “I can’t wait to go to work.“)

Hint: Environment is…?

Start NOW!  Go seek out inspiring people and buy them a coffee!

More (momentum) to come.

Onward and upward,

–Chelsea & the Live Your Legend Team

P.S. Oh yeah, about our wildly popular (and free!) test. It’s called the Should I Quit Test and it just might change your life. You may not want to show your boss your score! But do ask her for her score before you go applying for her job! 🙂

(Part 1 of 2… maybe 3, but definitely shorter next time, we promise!)
