Connection Comes from Action...

I'm keeping this post intentionally short (at least for me) - first off because I have to get back to work finishing up the course, and more importantly because connection does not come from reading - it comes from making contact. When in doubt, get out there, say hello and add some value! We'll cover plenty more details in our connecting course (join our pre-launch Insider's Team here). Now on to making big-time online connections...

Making connections is easier than most think.

I don't care if you're looking to meet a friend, business partner, wife, Warren Buffet or any top influencer in your industry, it all comes back to the same concept...

Making. Peoples'. Lives. Better.

If you spend your life thinking about how to bring the people around you (or the people you want to be around) up to a new level, making the world-changing connections will never be an issue. This can be done a million ways - from promoting their work, to helping their child get a job or simply providing that unbeatable feeling of giver's high.

On dreams coming true.

For years I've dreamed of being a part of a community that believed in possibility.

A group that believed and acted as if things could be different. A community of people that could inspire and support each other to do work they were truly passionate about and have the impact only they were capable of.

That has always been my deepest purpose for creating Live Your Legend.

Last Tuesday night that dream came true.

At 7:00 PM this community and our movement at Live Your Legend was brought to an entirely new level.

Over 100 of us joined together for the first ever live in-person Live Your Legend event.

While I had expected we'd have a San Francisco-only group, I was inspired to meet people from all over California and beyond. In fact the first person I met, Ben, told me he had just flown in from Seattle. Wow.

Everyone starts out as ordinary.

They do the things everyone else seems to do. But then at some point they decide that's not enough. For whatever reason they decide they are going to take a stand and do things a little (or a lot) differently. It is this decision that turns the ordinary into a living legend.  Then they go to do the things that most people tell them are impossible - the things most only dream of. And it's that transition that embodies the work we do at Live Your Legend and the community we have all created here. The amazing thing is that so many of you are those people. And it's an honor to have you among us. You make this community what it is, so it's important that we highlight the amazing things you're doing, and that's exactly why I created the Living Legends Reader Spotlights. Last month well over a hundred of you submitted your stories of what you're doing to live your legends. I was inspired. To be honest, I was actually a little blown away. So today the focus is on you. Each month I will profile 10-15 of you and send your story out to our community of over 16,000.

The Power of the Start

Yesterday I spent much of the day being inspired - by many of you. I read through countless Reader Spotlight submissions, and was blown away by what you all are doing... Donating to a different charity every week for a year with your daughter (and getting others to do the same), encouraging 100,000 people to become organ donors, hitchhiking the country to help introverts find success, an ex-lawyer helping other lawyers find their true path, moving to Japan to fullfil a childhood dream of becoming a ninja (I mean what guy can't appreciate that??), creating a concierge doctor service for solo-entrepreneurs and helping teen mom's realize their potential. The list goes on... Wow. I can't wait to feature a group of you in the next few weeks!

What Can Happen in a Year?

Last Thursday marked a year since I made the decision to switch my old blog Reading For Your Success over to a new brand - Live Your Legend. It took months to finally decide to make the switch (thanks to the friendly arm twisting of my buddies Corbett and Leo). I think about that decision a lot. I can think of no more profound change related to my online business career. Nothing even comes close. Reading For Your Success experienced just about 0% growth for the first four years I ran it. Once I made the switch, our community doubled almost overnight (from 4k to nearly 8k in under two weeks). Since then it's more than doubled yet again. It's been an unreal ride and I'm grateful to have experienced it. With it came some hard-learned lessons I want to share, but first here are some of the specifics of what's gone on since our launch...

Letting Our Community Inspire

In honor of Live Your Legend's first full year on earth (as of tonight at midnight), and my eigth year helping people do work they love, it's time to step it up a notch. And the only way we can do it is with you. Last week I asked you how we could take this community to a new level. How we could bring us all together to inspire, help and support each other to Live Our Legends. Your responses nearly put me to tears - both in your praise and your ideas. The most invigorating ideas included:

Being in the Right Place

Every year I dedicate at least a few weekends and a few thousand dollars to being in the right place. To attending events with people who see the world in a similar way. In a world where most people encourage complacency, we need a sanctuary where people understand why all of us interested in living meaningful lives, do what we do. I go to belong. To be inspired. To find ideas I'd never discover on my own. To find people who hold me to a higher standard. Because in that environment, magic happens.  There is no more powerful component to doing work that matters, to making a difference and to Living Your Legend, than putting yourself around the right people. It also happens to be the #1 ingredient to connecting with anyone. Last weekend was a perfect example. Chris Guillebeau hosted 1,000 people in Portland at his second annual World Domination Summit. For a weekend 1,000 of us got to feel at home.
