– Live Your Legend LOCAL

Urgent Update: Only Five Days Until Go Time!

This Tuesday, January 7th at 7pm, I’m hosting a LYL New Year’s kickoff party with a simple goal: To help you find and do work you love in 2014 and meet supportive inspiring people to keep you accountable to making it happen.

If you’re anywhere near San Francisco, come join our party at Samovar Tea Lounge. Tickets are free (unless you decide to make a donation), but spaces are starting to fill up, so register soon.

If you’re anywhere else in the world, check out our brand new Live Your Legend LOCAL site and app to see the 140+ other cities where meetups are being hosted. It’s all happening on January 7th!

Now let’s talk about 2014…

This Year I Resolve To…

Every year for New Year’s Eve,  Chelsea and I try to get a group of close friends together to celebrate. We cook a huge meal and eat, chat and dance the night away.

One of our rituals is to go around the table as each person lists off one of their favorite memories of the past year and one thing they want to give attention to in the near year – a resolution, goal, intention, whatever.

This year we circled a table overflowing with close friends, Spanish wine, tapas and a jumbo 30-inch wide seafood paella that Chelsea whipped up (we’re obsessed with Spanish food).

As my turn came, there was no question what my focus for the new year would be…

Bring People Together.

That’s it. Personally, professionally and everywhere in between, this is one of the most impactful things I think I can do for my life and those around me. In fact, every week during my weekly planning process, I dedicate a few minutes to thinking how I can make introductions, plan dinner parties and make connections.

What’s even more fun is that in a way, this is the most enabling resolution of all. Because with the right people in your corner, every other goal and resolution becomes attainable.

And when you boil it down, this is Live Your Legend’s fundamental purpose: To bring inspiring, passionate people together online and in the real world to support each other in doing the world-changing work that makes them come alive.

There is no more powerful strategy on the planet for personal transformation than choosing the right surroundings.

And this year we are taking this to a totally new level with our Live Your Legend LOCAL communities

Our goal is for this to become the equivalent of the Toastmasters/TEDx club for people dedicated to doing exciting world-changing work.

For those of you unfamiliar, Toastmasters is a global non-profit dedicated to teaching people how to be effective and confident public speakers through learning-by-doing. They have 14,350 clubs in 122 countries. Every club follows the same framework and agenda, with the club leaders and members adding their own character, passion and personality to make each club unique. They also happen to be one of the most effective personal development organizations in the world.

So applying that idea to Live Your Legend LOCAL, we want to set up a global network of in-person communities/clubs so that no matter where you are in the world, you can find a group of friends to support your big and “crazy” ideas in the real world. How cool will that be?!

We’ve spent months of time and thousands of dollars building this free tool and network of communities.

All I ask in return is that you take advantage of it, share it with others, show up and be the change!

The kickoff party for all this is January 7th (That’s in 5 days!), where we have over 200 Living Legends hosting LYL events in over 130 cities in 40 countries around the world. It will be the first of many monthly in-person meetings to help each other do work that makes us come alive.

So, my #1 resolution for 2014 is to bring inspiring people together in the real world.

My only question for you today is … Are you with me?

Take a second to think about what could be different if you and those around you had a supportive community of friends in your hometown to make your ideas and dreams come to life. That ripple effect could be enormous. And I think that’s just what it will become.

As long as you’re willing to show up.

So today I ask you to please take 5 minutes to do the following:

  1. Find, join and attend a LYL LOCAL meetup in your hometown next week. If you’re anywhere near San Francisco, come join our flagship launch party I’m hosting at Samovar Tea Lounge (spaces are starting to fill up). If you’re anywhere else in the world, check out our brand new Live Your Legend LOCAL site and app to see the 140+ cities where meetups are being hosted. It’s all happening on January 7th.
  2. Send this article or the Live Your Legend LOCAL site to at least one person you know could use it. Imagine the difference you could make for those you care about if you just welcomed them to a place where their ideas were supported and encouraged.
  3. Share the LYL LOCAL page on Twitter, Facebook or however else you like to get the word out. The ideas below will help with that…

To add to the fun, below are a few of my favorite quotes and thoughts about the importance of surrounding yourself with the right people. I made them into links, so if you click the link, it will allow you to share that phrase on Twitter along with a link to LYL LOCAL.

Please pick one or two of your favorites and share them with you communities. I’m grateful for your help in getting the word out.

12 Ideas Worth Sharing on Transforming Your Surroundings

With the right people in your corner, any goal or resolution becomes attainable.

Environment is everything. Your friends can either kill dreams or inspire possibility. Choose wisely…

The fastest way to do the things you don’t think can be done is to hang around people already doing them…

There is no more powerful strategy on the planet for personal transformation than choosing the right surroundings.

You are the average of the people you hang out with. That’s 100% in your control. Do something about it.

The fastest way to fill the gap between where you are & where you want to be is with PEOPLE.

The New Year’s resolution that makes every other goal possible…Hang around the right people.

Want to start doing work that makes you come alive in in 2014? Join a LiveYourLegend LOCAL club in your city on Jan 7!

In 2014, I resolve to hanging out with people who inspire me. Come join us!

143 cities, 44 countries, 1,000’s of people all meeting on Jan 7th to find and do work they love.

I just found the equivalent of the Toastmasters club for doing exciting world-changing work!

Do you want to find an exciting job in 2014? Check out Live Your Legend LOCAL in-person clubs to make it happen.

No one does anything meaningful on their own.

This is no different. This community, this vision, this idea would be impossible without the help of tens of thousands of you around the world.

I’m not sure if a meetup with this type of global scale has ever been done in the past. And be honest, I’m pretty damn nervous about it. But I’ve also never been more excited about a new project – and its potential to help the world. I cannot wait.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Together we make the impossible possible.

So I’ll ask one more time…

Are you willing to transform your surroundings with me this year and start hanging out with the people who make your goals and dreams a legitimate possibility?

I hope you’re with me.

I’m all in,

P.S. Now go find a Live Your Legend LOCAL Meetup near you and share it with someone you know could use it. See you on January 7th!
