17 Jan Featured Blog Posts: Revisiting the 4 Required and Necessary Steps to Live Your Legend
Happy Thursday Legends,
As we kick off the new year, I thought it would be a good idea to get back to the basics, so we are going to revisit the fundamental principles that Live Your Legend was founded on… and because we are all about taking action, of course give you ways to execute those principles!
We had over 30,000 people join our Live Your Legend family in 2018, so that’s a lot of people that may be wondering what this whole Live Your Legend thing is about!
First I will start with what we are not! Live Your Legend isn’t the place that is going to promise you a get rich quick ‘secret’. We aren’t going to sell you the ‘one thing’ that will change your life overnight and the only promise we can make is that we know for 100% certainty that every single one of us has the power and opportunity to live with a deeper sense of meaning and purpose, no matter what our current scenario is. We know this because we have done it personally and we’ve helped thousands of others do so over the past 10 years!
We have tons of articles, tools, courses, and programs that help guide you to discovering and living a more meaningful life, but there are 4 underlying principles we have found that separate the people that are living their life with a deep sense of meaning from those those who are not.
Below, are those principles and a few featured articles to help you take action on those principles!
I. Become a Self-Expert
To align who you are with what you do, you must know who you are… at your core. However, for years we have been conditioned by our surroundings. Most of our habits, beliefs, desires and values have subconsciously been programmed by our culture and upbringing, leaving many of us doing everything ‘right’ yet feeling empty inside. So becoming a self-expert is an ongoing process about discovering and living who we authentically are. This often times means letting go of self-limiting beliefs and ideas and opening up larger perspectives and views. This can be scary but as we start to gather data points about who we are and what we value, we can then begin to design and align our lives to coordinate with those data points.
7 Ways to Become Your Own Self-Expert (So you can be Your Best Self)
2. Do Your Own Impossible
If you have a limited view of how things have to and should be, you are limiting your possibilities of how to get the most out of your life. So doing the impossible is all about testing, experimenting and disproving self-limiting beliefs, so you can expand to a larger version of yourself. If and when you prove to yourself that you can do the things at are “impossible”, it causes you to not only redefine your beliefs about what’s possible, but it also opens you up to a larger number of opportunities in every area of your life.
3. Surround Yourself With Passionate People
Living a life that is authentic to you is not for the faint of heart. Looking deep within to understand who you are, and what you want and why, is some of the hardest work you’ll ever do. Because it means you face your truth and once you know the truth, it’s impossible to unknow it… Sometimes this means finding a new way to do things that the current people in your life might find ‘weird’ or ‘threatening.’ Their concern comes from a place of love, but if everyone around you tells you that you are crazy, you’ll start to believe them. So surrounding yourself with people who support instead of discourage your dreams is required to maintain momentum.

4. Do Something That Matters: Lead, Serve, Give
This is what I wrote about last week with when sharing the results of our Live Your Legend Loves program. This is the step that makes things meaningful and turns achievement into fulfillment. This is where we think bigger than ourselves and do what we do for something greater than ourselves. It doesn’t mean self-sacrifice or self-sabotage but when you use your passions, talents and strengths to lead, serve and give to others, it creates a deep level of meaning around what you do—it gives you a rich WHY to keep going even when things get tough. If you are only doing what you are doing for you, you might give up when things get hard…because things will get hard! Odds are that you will ‘fail’, you will ‘fall’, or things won’t go as planned, and if you are doing what you do for a reason greater than you, it gives you the motivation necessary to keep going even when you don’t feel like it! And it happens to be a gift that keeps you going, even when when you don’t know how!
Many of us conceptually understand the idea that giving makes us feel good, but this deeper understanding of why giving is the key to lasting fulfillment, which I learned from Neale Donald Walsch, really helped me understand a greater why:
“When you give something away, you will no longer be “wanting” it, you will immediately experience having it—because the very act of your giving something away causes you to experience that you have it to give away, since you cannot give to another something you do not now have.”
Happy New Year and Thank you for Doing Something That Matters!
One final important thing to note is that this is an ongoing process. Living Your Legend isn’t a box you tick and then it’s done. As you and your life evolves and changes, so do your interests, desires and values. Therefore, constantly revisiting and deepening each of these four pillars is an ongoing process, and that is exactly what we are here to help you do!
Tune in next week as I talk about a topic I focus on all that often, but happens to be quite important: money!
Happy meaningful living,
