08 Jun Win Free Tickets to the 2017 WDS Summit, Then Connect With World-Changers and Difference-Makers!
Scott believed that most of our deepest connections have happened far from a conference room, industry event or, god forbid, a “networking event,” but we will all still find ourselves at events like these from time to time. And assuming you find conferences that are congruent with your beliefs, they could be an unbelievably good use of time – and a total blast.
Today we are giving away 2 free tickets (valued at almost $1,300) to the World Domination Summit in July. It’s actually hard to call this much of a conference, though. It’s more of a Woodstock for World Changers- a party for people who want to make a difference in the world. Their mission is to create a community of adventurers from all walks of life that help each person pursue a big dream. You’ll meet some of the most inspiring and aspiring people on the planet! Read all the way to the bottom to find out how you can win.
Before the giveaway, we have a special treat for you today. This is a lesson from our flagship course How To Connect With Anyone titled “The Art of Connecting at a Conference.” Think of it like a free sample / taste test of our best course.
The below article and video is just one of hundreds of useful and practical tools for introverts and extroverts found in our course curriculum. Connect With Anyone is all about surrounding yourself with people who will help you find and do work you love, support you in doing your own “impossible,” and not let you fail. We are enrolling students now for our next course opening on September 1st. Check out more about this self-paced online course here. It’s a game-changer. (Note: the price goes up to full price as we get closer to September so reserve a spot now if you’re seriously considering enrolling at some point.)

Scott first met Mike Bruny at his favorite conference of the year – The World Domination Summit. It turned out Mike and Scott had a number of mutual friends, were both a part of the Young Entrepreneur’s Council, and Mike’s got a very heartfelt and unique approach to meeting folks at these types of events. You’ll notice a common thread: passion for helping people.
Connect with Anyone… at Conferences
“Long after the conference has concluded, it’s the connections that continue.”
I love conferences.
They allow you to connect with a lot of great people at once. They serve as a natural filtration system, mostly pulling together people with similar interest. With all the great things that can happen at conferences, there are things that I have found to be hurdles when it comes to actually making great connections.
This seems to show up most often when someone is trying to connect with an “A-lister.” They may be a speaker, organizer or a fellow participant, but for some reason you feel you can’t connect with them. The most common response I get when I ask people what their biggest conference networking challenge is…
“I don’t feel like I have anything to offer.”
NONSENSE, I say!
In this video, I share two things you can do to connect with anyone at a conference and shake the “I don’t have anything to offer” blues.
Take Inventory
Take inventory of what you have to offer by using this acronym as a primer: W.H.E.N
W is for Work: Jot down the places you have worked and the skills you have gained.
H is for Hobbies: Jot down the different hobbies you have. You are probably passionate about them and can provide great insight.
E is for Education: Jot down the different things that you have studied. Finally, all those hours spent studying in and out of school can pay off.
N is for Network: Jot down the people you know and what industry they are in. You never know when you will be in a conversation and hear someone say something that may seem random, like, “Man, I’m looking for a great bow tie.”
To the uninitiated, this is random, but for someone in my network, it’s an opportunity for them to be of service by connecting them with me. I have a collection of bow ties I created for charity, called, The Bow Tie Flow (based on a true story: I got a call from a college buddy while he was driving after he heard a radio announcer say he was looking for a new bow tie. That’s the power of knowing who does what in your network).
Do you really expect me to write this stuff down?
I’ll give you the long and short answer, “Yes.” We both know you have a lot to offer, It’s all about remembering to remember; this will help.
On to the next one…
Get Curious
The second thing I advise is getting curious. You are face-to-face with the New York Times bestselling author that you’ve always wanted to connect with. Now what?
Ask them these two questions to put yourself in a position to be of service and keep the relation going.
- What are you currently working on that you are most passionate about?
- What is your biggest challenge at the moment?
Once you know someone’s challenge, you can find a solution on their behalf.
Conferences are a great way to go right pass the gatekeepers and make direct connections with the people you have been wanting to connect with. Be ready with what you have to offer and get curious about what the needs are of the people you are connecting with.
You are on your way to connect with anyone at your next conference.
My goal is always to help you Run the Point (take action) from where you are, with what you have.
I look forward to connecting at a conference soon and turning our relationship from #Hashtags (online) to Handshakes (offline).

Everyone has some degree of fear and hesitation when interacting with people. It just depends on the context. Tell us on Facebook, in 250 words or less, what your biggest fears are when connecting. We all have these moments of doubt, and sharing can be a great first step in conquering them! The world is starving for authenticity, so be as genuinely you as you can when sharing.
Simply tag @liveyourlegend in your Facebook post. We’ll consider any post that publishes before 11:59pm PST on Monday June 12th. We’ll give a free WDS ticket to the two entries we felt were the most authentic and honest. We’ll then announce the winners on June 14th.
